Was thinking of planting annuals for this year, then transfer the Marsh Spurge (on the left in pic 2) early next spring. I’m a newbie so wanted to check what people think- all ideas welcome!

It’s a south-facing wall with full sun, S/W England.

I think a trailing plant would look good in here. Perhaps a thyme (full sun) or creeping jenny (partial shade)? Prostrate rosemary is another good one that likes full sun.

Be careful not to make it too heavy – I can imagine it falling over and smashing. Maybe fill the bottom with gravel then as others have suggested something trailing or wispy

A Mediterranean pot . Geraniums both upright and trailing, trailing thyme and rosemary (tho that can get quite big). Nasturtiums.

Something that cascades down the pot would look lovely

Does it have a drainage hole? Because if not water logging could be an issue.
I’d be inclined to find a plant pot that fits into the mouth without falling in and plant any of the trailing plants recommended by others here.
To give a bit of balance so it doesn’t topple small stones are good. Just put them in gently. Or you could resolve the drainage issue in an unfortunate manner 🤣

Also worth keeping in mind that what goes in that pot may be an arse to remove, so trailing annuals like lobelia that can be replaced each year might suit a narrow topped pot like this.

Summer bedding, anything more permanent will have a rootball you will never get out without breaking the pot.
