Unpot it, wash the soil from the roots. Take a knife and cut the ryzhome in pieces. Each piece should have a growingpoint and atleast 1 root.

Helis hate to get repotted, it will propably drop its pitchers and will start to look like it is dying. But this is not the case, it will sproud again after a few weeks. They are drama queens.

    Awesome!

So this advice is for transplanting, not specific to heliamphoras, just generic horticulture advice, if someone has better species specific advice, that would be better to follow.

Before transplanting, have your pot and media ready, have a container of distilled water to clean the plant of media and try and preserve the roots as much as possible.

If you have chop sticks or a couple butter knifes, or any thin tool you can use to work into the edge of the pot, and use the flat tools like tongs and pull the plant from the pot. then you can remove whatever media you can in the container you set aside with clean distilled water. I like to then pack the media around the roots making a big slightly compressed lump that when it expands a bit will still be snug in the pot, but also not so dense and compressed to slow water flow.

Now heliamphora specific media, from “Savage Garden:” 3 parts sphagnum moss, one part lava rock, and one part pearlite. use shallow tray method, with cool distilled water, if you top water daily you do not have to use a tray.

    good luck with the transplant.
