Built our gh a few months ago and it still gets too hot even after I added the exhaust fans. Research says I should add shade cloth over the roof to aid in keeping the heat down. I made a wood frame, v attached it to the gh and then screwed the shade cloth to it giving it a 3-5 inch gap between the roof panels and the shade cloth. Overall it turned out good. Not sure it's gonna help but figured it couldn't hurt

A raised shade cloth would be better.

Next step is adding a cooling wall. I just finished mine last month

or just use insect screen and never worry about heat again?

Also, consider removing many wall panels and replace them with window screen. Natural ventilation is much cheaper and more effective if you have enough open space.

Would painting a roof panel or two white help. I’m about to buy a similar greenhouse…

That gap makes a huge difference ime. I did something similar last summer and found that the air pocket between the cloth and the roof acts like a buffer, preventing the heat from soaking directly into the panels.

  7. The only downside I see is that such a mesh isn’t durable and will end up in the landfill within a few years.
