New follower, but I'm hooked on the Greenstalks. BIG sale on now! I am glad to see you have bee balm and chamomile in yours. I put them in but was second guessing it! You need to become an affiliate!
With the pricing of potting soil, sometimes you don't get what you pay for. For instance Kellogg's is expensive and I bought a bag of it's potting soil and it should have been labeled mulch with it being almost all wood chips. So be cautious no matter the price.
I love my GreenStalks! I have 8 of them. I like them as a space saver to have more plants in a small footprint that would take too much space in quantity in my small garden like lettuce, bok choy, and bush beans. Half of them are just for strawberries. I quit growing strawberries a long time ago since the rolly pollies would decimate them in the ground. For me now, the challenge with strawberries in the GS is getting them to survive winter. Strawberries need time to acclimate to cold. After having a warm fall and then suddenly the first Artic cold front of the season, it would take them. I have to take a lot of extra precautions since, unlike in the ground, they get too cold too fast in containers. But I see people north of me who don't have that problem. That how I figured out my problem was acclimation, not temperature.
I'm trying strawberries in one greenstalk this year to see if it might be a permanent solution. I hate crawling around trying to find berries on the ground every day, plus if my chickens get out they eat them all!
My other greenstalks I plant mostly herbs and leafy greens like lettuce and spinach, which get replaced with bush beans or hot peppers. Opens so much space in my garden beds!
I just planted my first Greenstalk this month (I got it for Christmas last year) and I ordered another with the Mother's Day sale. I have wanted one since moving to our property in 2020, but was afraid that the wind would topple it. The unit I got last year was discontinued / clearanced and by the time I ordered only the 7 tier was available in my budget. I ordered and extra watering bowl and lids (crazy winds and dust) for both and set them up as a 3 tier and a 4 tier so they are not taller than my deck railing. I ordered early during the current sale and am getting a 3 tier original, my current one is the leaf style with the shorter pockets.

I don't have the property for in ground gardens. I have 4 Green Stalks at the moment, all deep pockets. This year I am planting Cheery Tomatoes, Medium Bush Tomatoes, Space Master Cucumbers, Beit Cucumbers, Bush Beans, Patty Pan Squash, bunching onions and parsley. In other planters I grow several types of mint, rosemary, thyme, oregano and basil. Have a good summer.
"Sweet Asylum" made my morning 🙂 To be fair, Basket of Gold Alyssum really does feel like a sweet asylum when it blooms.
