  1. wtf 40k
Panels like that cost $150 a piece. The fancy electronics cost half the price of the total cost of the panels… The aluminum probably cost like $300 total. You got ROBBED

  2. That seems super expensive for that amount of solar. Glad you're paying it off quickly regardless.

Solar makes great sense in the overwhelming majority of cases.

  3. I need 7-8,000 kWh/yr but my roof is covered in snow 1/3 the year and cloudy another 1/3. you dont see much solar around here

  4. "Balcony solar" or plug-in solar has been approved in Utah, and has been wildly successful in Germany. Panels run from $500-2000, depending on model and companies. They generate a modest 500-800w, which enough to power large appliances and cut monthly electricity bills. They reportedly pay for themselves within 3-5 years and are an option for renters who don't have the authority to install panels or make other building modifications.

Some California municipalities have approved plug-in solar as well.

  5. Interesting breakdown. I'm in Canada so it's not likely to be useful to me. I'd probably do better with wind turbines since we're so windy here! If only snow could produce energy……

  6. How long is the guarantee on the panels? …. and how much are the batteries?
How would 1/2 the capacity worked out?

  7. So IF there wasnt goverment kickback, say 10ish years ROI on the solar system? I really want to invest in solar/EV's but the ROI is too far out for me still, at 5 years i'd probably consider it, but a decade is still to much for someone who is living paycheck to paycheck

  8. My neighbour pays $487/month rural delivery rate. I paid $8000 three years ago and that's it. I run hottub, lights, tv ,fridge, and tv plus PS4. I run generator 10 days a year at $8/day when in northern Alberta sun is very limited in winter. In Dec the generator runs 10 days.

  9. OK your math is entirely wrong when deducting your utilities over the last five years you subtracted 14,000 not 1400

  10. Solar has been a long term investment for the last like decade at least.. this really isn't that shocking.

  11. land of the freee they said, that same system would only cost 5000usd here give or take

  12. You have to factor in cost to get electric to your house if you buy land and build your own house, at least in places where the electric company won't run the wire for free.
For me It would probably be 15-17k to get it run to the house, so I am going to go with solar.
For 5k I can have a system that should generate more than I need and I can expand the batteries once I have some extra money, so I am saving an absolute ton of money and won't have to pay a monthly electric bill.
