Just put it in the dishwasher…that will take care of them.

How often are you emptying it outdoors? We have the same collection bin at our house. I know sometimes people believe they can actually compost in one of these. These are simply for collection before transferring to your larger compost bin or heap outside. I like to empty ours every day or every other day to keep most of the decomposition happening outdoors.

I have the same compost pails. I would spray it with a hose and then with vinegar and leave it outside in the sun until dry.  The bugs love those things and the carbon filters don’t always keep them out. I sometimes cut circles out of cardboard and put them in the lid to keep bugs out.

Look up springtails! If they bounce when you get your finger close that’s a good sign thats what it is. They really like warmth and humidity
