PEORIA (25News Now) -Families were invited to create custom container gardens designed with mom, for mom, or as a gift in a hands-on workshop at Luthy Botanical Garden.
The event offered a guided experience inside the garden on Mother’s Day eve.
The beginner-friendly class included staff walking participants through each step, with plants and materials included. Families picked a container and started building, laying soil, positioning plants and learning tips on spacing, planting depth and mixing textures and colors for a full, balanced display.
“It’s just really fun. I’m glad that they have an interest with me in making our garden beautiful. We actually just moved out here last summer, so we are just finally getting to make our garden look pretty,” said Charlise Lee, a participating mom.
Organizers said the workshop was a chance to get creative while building a porch, patio or deck display that will keep growing beyond the special day.
The event combined a Mother’s Day activity with a chance to enjoy the garden during one of the prettiest times of the year.
