  1. I always let carrots grow through the winter into the second year instead of buying carrot seeds and getting a little packet of seeds for two to five bucks. If you just let one carrot go to flour wait till the end of the season when it's all dried up and collect the seeds and you will have enough carrot seeds for yourself for many years. After always let carrots grow to the second year harvest the seeds never be without carrot seeds again

  2. You won't get carrots after they begin to bolt. They use the root as stored energy to produce the plant and seeds. I think pretty much most root crops operate like this. They use their root for energy storage so if left too long you won't have any sizeable root to eat or it'll be woody and bitter.

  3. Iโ€™ve been trying to grow carrots for two years and still havenโ€™t gotten one large enough to eat. Last year they wouldnโ€™t germinate and this year I think I planted too late and they wonโ€™t get big enough before the hot weather comes. Maybe next year!

  4. Why did you just kill the next year's carrot ? You waited all that time jest to kill the plant right before. It was about to make seeds .

  5. No you can harvest the seeds after their first winter after the flower heads have dried a bit

  6. Yeah those are seeds. It's not necessarily the amount of years it lives it's the fact that it survived through winter is what triggers reproduction

  7. Yeah, just pick it when itโ€™s two weeks away from giving you a fucked ton of car seeds. Great fucking idea. Iโ€™m sure you got so much more out of that 4 in.ยฒ space.

  8. If it flowers don't eat the root once it flowers it meant he root is finished and tough. If you planted it last year it is now in its second summer. Usually carrots are planted in spring so the second summer is s year and a half away from it's planting. You planted in the end of summer so it's second summer came seven months later.

  9. Those were seeds but were not ready yet. When the seed heads start to dry out you can snip it off and let it finish drying. I also just walk around and shake them around the garden. CARROTS EVERYWHERE!
