Completely forgot about this guy. He's been sitting in my room completely unwatered for… a while. Can't even remeber when I got him. I got some cacti soil I thought he'd appreciate, but ran out so the pot is only about halfway full. I could add some normal soil to fill it up the rest of the way if that'd help? I also tried watering him a few times before switching his soil.
Problem is, I'm not even sure if he's still alive ngl. His rootball thing was COMPLETELY hydrophobic and a lot of it just crumbled into dust when I moved him. His bottom leaves have curled up and died I think, and some of the top ones broke off.
Idk why he's blue. Pretty sure he used to be fully blue and then grew a bit? He's sitting by my window rn in case he needs some sunlight.
Anyways I like to name all my plants but I kinda forgot this guy existed so… Name ideas anyone? To put on his tombstone if nothing else.

A common problem with cacti and succulents is etiolation. This is when a succulent stretches or becomes leggy. Reply with “!etiolation” for advice.

It’ll be fine, just dry. Needs a much smaller pot and FILL it with dirt to the rim, then fully soak it with water and give it sunlight.
Haworthia zebrina. Doesn’t like direct sun but bright indirect. Fast draining mix of cactus soil plus additional perlite 50:50. Pot is too big. General rule according to size of rootball plus a bit some room. Water as needed not on schedule. Check with wooden skewer if it needs more water. Don’t water right after repot. Give it a few days for roots to adjust. Happy growing 🪴💚
I’ve had a couple of these guys for years. Water him (make sure there’s a drainage hole in the bottom so it doesn’t sit in water) and it’ll perk back up. Mine are outside in a terra cotta pot, and arid climate under a big tree (so dappled light). They do this when I forget to water, and perk back up after I do.
It’s probably best not to stress them out like this? But idk, it’s been 8 years and they’re still alive lol. I’m guessing you just got busy and forgot, which is understandable.
Also, it’s not required to get another pot, and I’m not sure why it was suggested in another comment, because the main issue with that is *over*watering, which doesn’t seem to be your problem lol. [Here’s a good discussion on pot size.](https://www.reddit.com/r/explainlikeimfive/comments/1311vpe/eli5_how_can_a_pot_be_too_big_for_a_plant/)
I keep plants in “too large” pots all the time, though I have decades of gardening/houseplants under my belt. Just watch how much you water, which you should be doing anyway. Good luck!
