Using fire to remove grass?

I don’t own a lawn mower or weed whacker, and I hope to avoid buying them if my plan is to just remove the grass anyway. Since I’m not in any great hurry, I wonder if just waiting for the vegetation to brown up this summer, and then safely burning it off is a decent option? My plan then is lasagna the area with cardboard and compost, and prepare for some Fall planting. Ok plan? Pacific Northwest.
