Normally I'd wait, but my mom is visiting for a couple of weeks and I'd love to give her a tomato before she leaves. This one is just barely starting to show some yellow.

  1. I wouldn’t. It doesn’t look like it has hit “breaker” stage yet. When does she leave? If in two weeks, it may be ready by then.

Personally I wouldn’t pick it ***today*** but maybe once it shows a little orange? If waiting that long is possible? That being said, last year when I was pulling out my tomato plants I ended up with about 30ish green Roma tomatoes with a little touch of yellow that I tossed in some paper bags and just let sit on the counter. Took a while but they eventually changed to red.

There’s only two things that money can’t buy.

Not unless you want to make Fried Green Tomatoes.

By the time Mom arrives the tomato will be ready to pick. Wait until it starts to turn from yellow to red. By then it has taken in all it needs to fully ripen.

It will ripen on the vine she can take it if you wait until the day she leaves and give it to her

  7. If you’re wanting vine ripe tomatoes, it’s a bit too early. If you want fried green tomatoes, go for it. Best bet is to leave it on the vine until she is ready to go then give it to her.

If she’s visiting for a few weeks, leave it on there as long as you can. If it doesn’t at least start blushing before you pick it, it won’t ripen correctly/fully
