Does this look like grub damage? These spots appeared late last fall.

Dig some holes and look for grubs, could also be fungus.

If it’s scrub damage, you’ll be able to just grab with your hands and pull it up like a carpet. The grubs eat the roots and that’s why it dies. Good news is grub X works.

It may be a bit early in the season to determine grub activity. The roots would be toast and easy to pull but if it’s been dead since the fall then the roots are probably toast by now anyways. If it is active grubs, you want a product like Dylox or Bioadvanced 24 hour grub killer. GrubEx for a preventative if you don’t see any.

I do see some grubs when digging but not that many. I put down Grubex a few weeks ago. I’m going to replant and see what happens. It’s very spotty – if it were a fungus wouldn’t it be more widespread?

My lawn looks like this where my dog peed all winter

This looks like exactly what happened to my lawn. My neighbor, whose lawn is perfect said it’s from crab grass that hasn’t grown back yet.

On a side note, those weeds with the little flowers are a bitch to kill. Every year I get them and it’s a battle to control.
