USU Extension press release
Guest article written by Julene Reese
Utah gardeners, polish your pruners and grab your gardening galoshes! Utah State University Extension is launching a statewide summer campaign in search of Utah’s best gardens. The contest runs from May 1 to August 30 and will allow gardeners to showcase their hard work, creativity, and growing success.
Whether tending a small patio space, a backyard landscape, or a garden that spills across the fence, there’s a classification for everyone.
The contest includes five categories:
Container/Patio Gardens
Flower Gardens
Vegetable Gardens
Native Gardens
Best Overall Garden
Participants can visit the Utah Garden Competition website for entry information and to submit up to five photos of their garden. Participants can only enter one category, but all are eligible to win Best Overall Garden.
Winners will receive a yard sign announcing their win, USU gardening merchandise, a certificate for a free gardening course, an Olmsted Forge garden set, and will be featured in various USU and affiliate marketing publications, including the 2027 Extension calendar.
Extension offers free gardening tips at garden.usu.edu to help gardeners in their endeavors.
