the left side is regular dirt that i dug up from my backyard – the right side is potting soil from dollar tree

it’s been almost 2 weeks since i planted these zennia flowers and i’ve noticed the regular dirt having better success than the potting soil

what do you guys think about using regular dirt as soil?

Not that uncommon. Could just be that your dirt was dug up and not just taken from a bag. So it could be more broken up for roots to excel. Also, did you grow in your dirt last year?

Moisture-holding ability of the soil probably affects germination rate. Then less competition is better. So you get fewer, stronger individuals.

That’s my hypothesis. Anyway, I’d keep running the experiment.
