Lacy Seidenberger and Presley Jost become the first Mixed Doubles State Champions in the Bearkats’ tennis program history.

SAN ANTONIO — The Garden City tennis program added to the record books Friday as Lacy Seidenberger and Presley Jost won the Class 1A Mixed Doubles State Championship. 

The duo becomes the Bearkats’ first-ever state champion for mixed doubles, and first state champions since Alex Halfmann and Taylor Niehues went back-to-back in 2006-07 for boy’s doubles.

Seidenberger and Jost didn’t give up a set in their first three matches at the Class 1A State Tournament at the Blossom Tennis Center in San Antonio. In the finals, the Garden City pair took the first set 7-5, but dropped the second set, also 7-5, to the Knippa’s Madison Speer and Cameron Santos to go to a third and final set, where Seidenberger and Jost took home the title with a 6-3 victory in the scorebook.

Other athletes competing in the second day of state tournaments include Sanderson’s Asa Coyan and William Guillen earning second place in boy’s doubles, and semifinalists in the Class 1A tournament earning a medal include Buena Vista’s Luke Fierro in boy’s singles, Grady’s Camden Wiebe and Knight Durham in boy’s doubles, and Buena Vista’s Genova Sanchez and Andrea Garcia, and Marathon’s Sadie Carter and Annaliese West in girl’s doubles.

In Class 2A, Gunnar Stroud takes home a silver medal to Reagan County for boy’s singles. Marisa Stewart out of Midland High finished as a semifinalist in Class 6A.
