Please be nice. To preface, I have actual entomophobia, which makes my plant hobby really hard. I’ve actually been to therapy about my bug aversion lol, I’m not scared of them but seeing them and being too near them makes me literally throw up. I cannot help it.

I made this terrarium today out of things I already had because I was gifted this fern and fittonia for Mother’s Day. I’ve had these plants and I don’t particularly care for them. I’m familiar enough with them to know I won’t water them enough, or be able to provide the humidity they need outside of a closed environment. Hence the emergency terrarium.

The potting medium is mostly peat/shagnum, plus some bark and a dash of clay/pumice. I took a scoop from the center of a rotting tree stump in my yard as well (and made sure to pick out the slugs). I collected about 20 isopods from my yard too.

After a few hours to settle, under the flashlight I see springtails (I think), isopods… and these monstrosities.

I can mentally handle the springtails and roly-polies, but the centi/millipedes are really freaking me out and I can’t sleep with them in my house unless I know they’re A: not going to escape the sealed jar and crawl into my ears, and B:provide something beneficial to the terrarium.
