What’s up with my spinach?


Wondering why its so tall and spindly…. Is it not getting enough sun (6-8hrs)? Too small of a container?

    You should have harvested it like a week ago, it has bolted.

    To expound further, once it hits a certain temperature some plants like spinach will bolt, meaning they stop growing leafy foliage and send up a flower stalk and produce seed. This tends to mean the end of our edible adventures as these plants usually get bitter.

    You are now growing spinach seeds.

    Too warm and it bolted. No longer too useful as spinach.

    You should just pop more seeds into the planter and keep out of too much sun.

    If you bought a plant.. you’ll need to go buy more plants.

    It’s bolted. It means it’s gone to seed. Try again in the fall when it cools off.

    It bolted. About to flower, and die.  You can harvest now. It it’s hot enough to bolt, it might be bitter, though.
