Hello everyone

Firstly is this tree too close to my home?

It looks like it’s been pruned but does it need done again soon?

Also I am in central Florida and hurricanes and a possibility, obviously this tree has been through a few I’d imagine.

Any information on care etc
It’s a live oak from what I’ve been told but haven’t confirmed it
Thanks

It’s not right next to your house and looks healthy, so I’d leave the tree there. If it’s been through a few hurricanes, that shows it’s strong and isn’t likely to fall on your house, or at least not any time soon. I’m not a tree expert, but that’s a beautiful tree and it doesn’t appear to need pruning. While some live oaks have very horizontal branches, the branches on that tree are more vertical, which adds structural stability and also means it’s not likely to snake a branch through your window in 20 years. I cannot confirm if that is a live oak, but it looks a lot like one. Regardless, having a big, healthy tree will give you some pleasant shade in the Florida heat and adds curb appeal. That tree could easily be over a century old.

That is a massive ash by my eye, could be a live oak but if so, you want to get started on EAB treatments ASAP, there are few places that haven’t been hit yet, and it’s about a 1 in a hundred million chance of surviving without treatment. Once you see symptoms it’s usually too late

So beautiful!! It looks healthy to me… I’m not an expert, but its probably not likely to fall over in hurricanes. In my experience, it’s the long horizontal oak limbs you wanna look out for come storm season.

It does appear to be a big, healthy live oak. They are native to Florida and have survived hurricanes for hundreds of years. I’m not a professional, but i don’t think it’s too close to the home. If you are worried, you can hire a TRAQ certified arborist to come assess the trees health and ease your mind. Whatever you do, only ever hire a certified arborist or a reputable tree care company. Any landscaper will likely want to sell you trimming services and end up butchering the thing

That live oak will outlive your house in a storm, I wouldn’t sweat it. Get an arborist out every few years to see if it needs a trim and leave it be otherwise.
