(Based in Phoenix.) I bought my first air plant a week ago, and over the last 4 days I’ve noticed these dark spots have appeared on its leaves. I’ve misted it maybe twice and dunked it in water for a few minutes because the leaves continued to feel incredibly crispy and dry; I just can’t get it to seem happy and hydrated no matter what I do. I have been letting it try upside down in a window for 8-10 hours during the daytime every time I attempted watering (that’s why there is white string around it; I have been hanging it upside down from a window hook until I get a nice display for it.) It’s not squishy at all; it just feels parched and crispy. The black patches seem to be growing. Is it somehow rotting? Or is it not getting enough light? I currently have it chilling on a shelf that gets hit with sun through the day.

Looks like the leaves are physically damaged by being bent. Like a bruise at the crease. Sometimes mine fall off their perch and this happens.

Tricomes damaged by bending the leaves or from touching them too much.
