…of scale. This was a standalone in a high window that I didn’t touch for months. Finally decided to take it down to water and found this lovely surprise. Should I get out the flamethrower or use a hero’s dose of alcohol?

Thank you for posting to r/plantclinic!

It looks like you may be asking about a cactus or succulent. In addition to any advice you receive here, please consider visiting r/cactus r/succulents for more specialized care advice.

A common problem with cacti and succulents is etiolation. This is when a succulent stretches or becomes leggy. Reply with “!etiolation” for advice.

Some may say to just toss it out, but a q-tip and dilute alcohol would be much more satisfying

Scale or thrips?  Is it so dense that they don’t need their usually round singular shields and just share with their swarm?

Oh nooo, with an infestation of mealy bugs and scales like that, I’d toss it. Keep away from other plants 🪴

im pretty sure its not scale or mealies. Scale make flat round disks that barely move.  There would be a varrying size of them too.   And mealies are fuzzy and bigger/whiter. But whatever bug it is its gross looking.
