I am pretty sure this is goldenrod in a corner of my backyard (pics 1-4). I thought it was all one type but after taking a closer look, there appear to be two clumps of different types. I could wait a few months for the blooms to see what they are, but I’m curious and impatient. Is anyone familiar with either of these?

Late boneset (pic 5) is growing near the sidewalk, so I plan to relocate it next to the goldenrod patch.

Next to the late boneset there is what I’m hoping is wild geranium, but it’s small and there are no flowers. I’m thinking of trying to move some to a shadier spot that won’t be mowed.

Also, last year I found wild 4 o clocks which I never heard of before. I’ll post a pic of those in bloom last year if I can find it!

It’s hard to tell but the leaves do look some like my geranium.

fwiw, I think 3 and 4 are some kind of aster. Agree with the other IDs, though!

I love finding volunteers like this. So exciting 🙂

    Goldenrod, then boneset, then geranium

I could be wrong, but pics 3 and 4 look like fireweed to me (which I do NOT consider a weed, the flowers are quite lovely).

5 is 100% boneset, looks like late but idk the other flavors. Unsurprising that it’s volunteering, I love mine but it is SO so so weedy with those massive amounts of airborne seeds. Deadhead those thangs as soon as the flowers start showing the first signs of fading if you compost them, the seeds will keep developing once they’re removed. Can push it closer if you’re throwing them out, but why waste valuable organic material!
