An unexpected guest stole the spotlight at the first garden party of the season at Buckingham Palace on Wednesday. Around 8,000 guests donned colourful dresses and lounge suits as they gathered to enjoy tea, cakes and sandwiches at the party, with their spirits not dampened by the grey skies above.
The event was attended by all working royals except Prince William and Princess Kate, with the King pictured in a morning suit with a pale yellow waistcoat and top hat and the Queen wearing a pastel blue embroidered coat dress. All eyes were on heroic hearing dog Vegas, however, an excitable two-year-old spaniel who leapt up at Princess Anne and King Charles, drawing attention from the senior royals.
