It’s time for me to plant my dahlias out in my container garden 🌸
In this video, I’m planting dahlia tubers in pots on my deck and walking you through my full process, including fertilizing and staking. If you’ve ever wondered how to grow dahlias in containers, or struggled with them in the past, this is the method that works for me season after season!

Despite looking at the weather app minutes before planting and it showing no sign of frost in the 10 day forecast, we then get a potential frost warning that afternoon (this is why I have trust issue 😂). I threw blankets over the cages and all of the plants are looking good this morning!
I planted the tubers I overwintered in March. Some of them are blooming! They are all short varieties. I'm hardening them off right now. Our weather has been hot and cold so I hope they do well this summer. Happy planting!
Informative planting video!
I’m wondering what happened to the dahlias you started in grow bags and placed in your shower?
How deep is the new planter? How deep do the roots grow?
I am thinking of growing dahlias on our back deck. It is a Southern exposure and gets a ton of sun and a ton of heat. I've read some places that this is too much for dahlia's. In your opinion is a ton of sun and a ton of heat okay for them? Thank you!
Your smile just lights up the screen! Always love seeing your videos! 😊🌸🪻🌻
So helpful.
The saran wrap method worked great for overwintering my dahlia tubers!
Isn't it exciting, when you are waiting for your first blooms?
I am close to see some of my dahlias in a few days… can't wait!
Also, today I planted some seeds (sunflowers, cosmos, zinnias, marigolds, gomphrena) in 23 little yoghurt plastic pots for my students that are graduating from high school in a month… let's see if they'll like it!
I’m across the way and pushing out planting for another couple of weeks. Last year I planted Mother’s Day weekend 😢. I might use tomato cages for the ones in pots because last year I didn’t stake them well enough.
