Maybe 7 or 8 years ago, this was my first orchid that wasn't a grocery store phalenopsis, and I had no idea what I was doing with a cattleya. It was mostly dead from overwatering at the store and had basically no living roots but a couple fresh ones popping. I grew it very badly while I resisted the need for grow lamps, and the carousel pot is the best compromise I could eventually find for the light-starved irregular growths that had formed as I moved it around year to year trying to figure out where it might be happy. See that funny cane growing downward on the left? Yeah, I was bad at this, and my house was dark! This was the "experiment plant," and I learned enough to bloom the second cattleya I got much faster (still took four years, and it wasn't mostly dead 😆). Well, today, Miss Experiment has bloomed for me for the first time! I have no orchid friends IRL, so I wanted to share here for the fun of success and to show all the new growers- time and experience are your friends!

May she keep blooming for you from here on out!
Good for you! Congratulations!
PS Did you ever get a light? How did you solve that?
Aaah, the joy of the first opening bloom… Remember that… Enjoy!
