This is my first time trying to grow anything. I started the potatoes on 3/1/2026 and they've been thriving up until now. The leaves are turning yellow and brown spots. I trimmed the brown spots away but the leaves keep turning yellow. I thought they may have been getting too much water, so I cut back but then they started looking sad. Idk what I'm doing. Help would be appreciated!

  1. Fill the rest of that bag with hay or soil and remember not
Only do they need lots of water, but nutrients too. I think yours need all the above.

Potatoe leaves go yellow as the potatoes mature in the ground. They’re taking the nutrients from the leaves. The potatoes are ready when the entire plant appears dead. This is the normal process for potatoes.

TL;DR: you’re fine. Rip them out when all the leaves are dead-dead.

  3. You might have early season blight. I’d remove all those yellowing leaves. Are they in full sun?

What variety are they? Quick first earlies like swift can be ready in 70 days. I harvest new potatoes when the leaves start to turn a lighter shade of green, there may or may not be yellow leaves by then. If you want larger potatoes or potatoes that will keep well then you’ll need to wait longer.
