Master Gardeners talk with a customer about pygmy caragana, a plant native to the Great Basin, at the May 18, 2024, Native Plant Sale conducted at the River Fork Ranch.
The University of Nevada, Reno, Extension Master Gardeners of Douglas County host their annual Perennial Plant Sale 9 a.m.-1 p.m. May 16 at River Fork Ranch Preserve, 381 Genoa Lane.
The sale includes native and adaptive native plant species. Native plants are more drought resistant than nonnative plants and are well adapted to the ecosystem of this area. They also help provide protection against invasive species and combat soil erosion in the Carson Valley’s challenging climate.
New this year is an opportunity to shop with a Master Gardener the night prior to the plant sale for $25. That provides two adults pre-sale access alongside a UNR Extension Master Gardener 4:30-6:30 p.m. May 15. The master gardener will provide expert tips and support in selecting the best plants. There is no limit on the number of plants that can be purchased, but all must be taken home that evening.
Registration for the pre-sale is required. For more information or a registration link, visit extension.unr.edu/master-gardeners/douglas.aspx. You can also contact UNR Extension Horticulture Outreach Coordinator Jessica Gardner at [email protected] or 775-782-9960.
