This tree in my front yard was topped due to some electrical line work this past winter, and this spring it seems to have grown exceptionally unruly in width. It’s my first spring in this house, so not sure if this is generally how it’s supposed to look, but some of the branches definitely appear to be stretching under the weight of wet leaves.
Can I trim the ends of branches off to relieve the weight, or do I need to remove full branches?

Remove less than 30 percent of the tree. Best to do it in the winter when dormant. You can take the whole limbs that are too low; be sure to look up where to make your cut. Cheers.
Thanks so much for your advice!
