Not a hoya expert but I do have a pretty green thumb generally.

I ordered this from unsolicitedplanttalks.com for $50. This is three cuttings pinned into a substrate, not a fully rooted plant. I'm pretty disappointed.

Yes, I plan to complain loudly.

But what are the chances this lives? What do I need to know to make sure it fully takes root? I unpacked it about 2 hours ago.

Would love advice from experts because I'm not feeling too good about the chances here.

THANK YOU!

EDIT: Due to feedback here, I will not complain loudly. Many of you feel like it's a good deal and that the plant will be OK. Glad I asked you lovely people.

This will easily live. But are those cuttings rooted at all? They seem to be to me. Lightly rooted cuttings is very normal… I honestly don’t see anything wrong

Also, that’s an insane deal for $50 just sayin

Ok I will speak to this somewhat. With as long as the vines are i use pins in mine for this to help keep them stable and secure in the medium. Are they Rooted? I have done this with my rooted vines.

Have you checked for roots? I know sometimes growers leave the prop pins in long after they’re needed. As for encouraging more root growth, I find that a higher humidity environment helps.

Are you sure it’s actually unrooted? Sometimes when the vine is long on a rooted plant, it’s still safer to secure it some with pins to help keep it from uprooting itself when the substrate is loose, especially in transit. I do think I see some roots in there but your pictures aren’t super clear.

That said, for $50 that is a nice honking mass of nodes. You can take a ton of cuttings to prop and root if you want to lower the strain on an underestablished root system

I say this with respect… do you have Hoyas? Have you grown them before? Because $50 for a Hoya cutting with that health and growth is a really, really good deal. Not being strongly rooted isn’t a biggie. Hoyas root easily. Three cuttings of this length for 50 bucks is amazing. Great purchase!

It might be an extra precaution to protect those long vines from getting pulled out during shipping, which would be very thoughtful. I’ve never ordered from them, but I’ve heard only praises about them & their plants
