getting them out of the shit soil I started with (native soil + perlite)
I also noticed something odd — the one soil mix I made out of just old pine needles and native soil (bc I ran out of perlite) had the best roots, though the top didn’t grow any better (all were heavily fed).
Probably because the organic component decomposed, leaving room for infiltration, while the others had their roots bunched around the outside of the pot with a bunch of compacted soil in the middle.
