I got this as a freebie in one of my recent succulent orders. It was already calloused up, so I put it on some dirt but it hasn’t grown roots. I have sprayed the dirt sparingly and keep it in a fairly shadowed place on my shelves. What can I do? I really want it to thrive, I was planning on buying this plant anyway so it would be great if I didn’t kill it lol

When they are chunky and fat they take longer cause they don’t need water yet. In my experience

I don’t think keeping it in the shadows is helpful. They do need light to grow roots. Especially since it’s an echeveria.

Leaf props and cuttings need a lot light if you want it to take root. Keeping it shaded isn’t really helping, also you don’t need to wet/moisten the soil until you see roots.

I find chubby succys takes long time to root. I got an Echeveria Romeo Rubin last May 2025. I did not pot it for many Months. Around October it did sprout some roots but I still did not pot in soil and roots dried out. Up until now its just sitting in a small jar by my SE bathroom window. No roots but bottom leaves are drying out. I will continue to just let it be until fall. Im thinking it will root by that time and I will then pot it.😅
