Ok so I’ve been in this house for over a decade and this has never happened. I did all the fertilizing etc myself for many years and due to my work schedule, I hired my landscaping company to do the treatments starting a few years ago. Last year, my lawn started to die in many areas. I couldn’t get any info from my landscaper so when the fall hit, I spent hours putting down fresh soil in the dead areas and seeded. Nothing came up. I have no idea what happened to cause this to happen (I have irrigation but maybe it wasn’t on enough??) but I need to fix it. But how? Wait until fall and seed again? I usually get top soil and mix with seed and starter fertilizer. Any tips would be very much appreciated. I am not paying the landscaper this year for the program!

Yikes, those bare patches look like they could be from grubs or fungal issues – I’d get a soil test done first to see what you’re working with. For Mass, you’ll probably want to overseed with a cool-season blend like tall fescue or perennial rye in early fall when temps cool down.

Mine is like this on a hill where there were tons of trees, the soil was super acidic. It’s still a little fucked up near the trees no matter what I’ve done so far while the rest of the grass is lush. I’d test the soil, and if that’s fine probably grubs or fungus.
