So I bought these in Florence Italy 3 years ago and I had no idea what they were. I remember the flower shop owner made a gesture with his hands symbolizing a big flower blooming and they sure did! I think they’re a butter cup? But they are just SO BIG. They are by far the most beautiful and fun to watch grow flowers ive ever had. The last photo was taken in the early stages.

Looks like a Ranunculus variety.
A ranunculus pretending to be a peony. Gorgeous!
Ranunculus.
It’s not really a flower anymore; it’s a horticultural atrocity. This thing has no value whatsoever to pollinators. It doesn’t even have a scent to entice human senses. It is just a pretty, useless thing that takes a lot of poison and resources to produce. Go find a straight species rose and inhale deeply — the smell will change your life.
God, I love ranunculus. I did guess peony and camellia first but you’d know if you’d bought a peony or camellia—ranunculus grow from little corms that look like a withered bird foot.
Paeonia?maybe
Idk where you’re from but if you ever get a chance to check out https://www.theflowerfields.com/ in person I think you’d love it!
Whole hillside of ranunculus!
Edited to say: btw those are gorgeous!
