First attempt at water propagation, not sure what to do with aerial root
Aerial root snapped as I was trying to pull it out of the soil, so hopefully it will be okay! I’m not sure if it needs to be submerged or not, how high the water should be, etc. Would love some guidance
I would make sure the cut is dried out / calloused over before putting it in water to make sure the plant doesnt rot in the water. The aerial root should be under the water so that it grows roots! 🙂

I’ve seen people do it both ways so I never know what’s right

Usually the cutting is left to callous for 24 to 48 hours before water propagation. This will harden the cut which helps to preventing fungus or bacteria leading to rot. The water level should just cover the roots and it would be beneficial to remove the lower petiole.

Just my 2 cents but I have never let it callous and I have never had an issue 100+ props this way and never had a problem.

It will continue to grow a new root out of the aerial root that snapped. The new root will be white

Never worried about letting mine callous and have successfully propagated many plants. I would make sure the aerial root is fully submerged at all times so the new roots that grow don’t dry out. Then you’ll be fine.

I just chopped and propped mine. I didn’t let it callus and it’s two weeks later no rot. I’ve never changed the water just added to it. Only covering about 2 inches of the plant and all the aerial roots are in the water too.

Put a pothos cutting in there too, they release rooting hormones that would encourage your monstera to root!
