Hello all! I've recently scored a bunch of Ouachita blackberries that were clearanced out to $2. Do these fellows do well in containers? I find all sorts of conflicting information online.
How big of a container do I need? I've read these are upright, so I shouldn't need trellises but I may need cages? I'm very excited to add blackberries to the garden so I'd appreciate any help I can get.
Thank you!!

15 to 20 gallon container with 20 being preferred. I have an osage and prime ark freedom in containers and they do well.
I tip my blackberries at about 4ft tall. That will spur lateral growth where your berries form. This is where your trellis comes into play. Honestly just keep on top of watering and fertilzing and you’re good. I have mine planted in happy frog soil with no extra amendments. I’ve been using tiger bloom currently for flowering and fruiting. After harvest I’ll hit it with some grow big for vegatative growth.
Your plant is a floricane variety. That means fruit will only grow on second year canes. So the canes you have right now or grow this season will be where your fruit grows next season. After you harvest those berries next year cut those canes down to the crown they won’t fruit again. New canes will grow and replace the old floricanes.
You can look up TexasPrepper2 on youtube he has series on growing blackberries in containers with really good info. Good luck hopefully you have a great harvest next season.
20-25gal would be good, and work very well with DIY remesh cages. You’ll also want to get some acidic potting mix or elemental sulfur to amend your soil with.
