This is the tallest of my basil seedlings at 5 inches tall. I kept finding mixed information online, so…

Am I correct in thinking that I should pinch at this yellow line now? Or do I need to wait for it to get taller still?

Thanks everyone! 🙏

I tend to do mine as low as possible. If it was me I would prune just above the node below to maximise ‘bushiness’. This may not be the perfect way it’s just what I do.

If you do cut at the lower point you’ll have enough of a cutting to propagate. You can snip off the lower set of leaves on the cutting leaving the cluster at the top. I put it in water up to 1” from the lowest leaf and find I usually get enough roots pushing out to transplant in two weeks.

    YMMV and all that.

I would get it into a larger (about 1-2 gallon) pot, then prune it just where you indicated.

snip just above the last leaves you’re leaving on the plant- two stems will grow from there…………plus, now you have a little fresh basil to use

I’d say so. I’d prune it one more leaf cluster down personally

If that’s the largest pot it’ll ever be in, sure, but I would transplant it to its final destination, let it get over the shock, then prune

at 6” is when i first prune it. i’d say go for it

Epic Gardening on YouTube just did a video on trimming Basil. Worth a watch

I usually just do it whenever I have use for some in the kitchen. You definitely could do it now
