Hi All,

What should I do about this Horse Chesnut? It popped up two years ago and it’s getting BIG.

Does it need chopping or can I just reduce the top and make it bushy?

Distance from back of the house is three metres. All drains are on the other side of the house, at least ten metres away.

Cheers

  1. It’s going to grow big, fast.

I would probably just remove it tbh. You won’t make it look nice by chopping it, it will always be unhappy and look ugly.

If you want a bush there you’re better off planting something rather than trying to train a plant that wants to be a 30 meter tree.

    They grow up to 30m.

You can prune it, but as a tree, chestnut doesn’t look great when small (due to large leaves).
