So I am attempting to make a plan to level this yard and i’m going back and forth with my dad. Should we do more dirt first or just sand and seed? Or is there a different solution you guys would suggest.

How would you handle this? We got an $8k quote from a company to level and take care of it is that right or too much?

I think you need more than sand.

Personally i would wait till fall, scalp it, and basically bring in a couple inches of fresh soil and level it out real good and seed it like a new lawn.

I ordered 8 yards of dirt for my 1/4 acre lot. It was a clay and compost mix so it would stay in place. It cost $300 which included delivery. I shoveled it by hand but you could also just rent a bobcat for the day from Home Depot. Huge savings vs hiring other people.

Good luck! I got a tiller and have been taking a few days per 20 ft x 20 ft square.

Tilling up the ground then evening it all out.

When I’m done I’m coming back through with 3 inches of topsoil and grass seed. It’ll be a 3-4 week process but it’s the only thing that made sense to me

My lawn was and is still in some places I haven’t done yet, but a land plane on my Kubota leveled out all the dirt. And let me start fresh. You could possibly rent one or perhaps have friend that has one.

    1. Rake up the garbage as much as you can, weeds, sticks, other nonsense.

    2. Pick up buckets of rocks and put them where they belong. Everyone needs a rock collection.

    3. Roto-till the soil if that’s your thing — or “scarfify” which is a bit more moderate. Or just rake it again but a little deeper. This will be no fun.

    4. Add store-bought soil to all the low areas –and believe me, it twill take dozens of bags of that – or a large delivery of soil dumped somewhere along with a wheelbarrow.

    5. Or skip #4 and just pull a drag of some kind over it to smooth it down. The heavier the better. You’ll enjoy that, believe me.

  7. Dirt and sand. Look up se youtube vids. It’s possible to diy but it’s a lot of work. Get some other quotes. And let someone else do it would be my advice
