Excited to be coming to your open garden, again, this year. I also just got a Plants by Mail order. Probably my last or next to last one as I wrap up projects at current home before moving back to childhood home over in Shelby and starting all over again,
Excited to see it all in person again in June! 🌼 I added cypress mulch to a path on my slope. It adds a similar look to the wood chips & seems to stay in place which is great too 🌺
Your garden looks amazing! "So easy to do more seed than you need. . ." The story of my current life! LOL But, for tomatoes, only two: Black Beauty and San Marzano, already in the ground and looking good. For cucumbers, I was looking for a particular German heirloom variety that's apparently a bit rare now. Found some seeds in my saved stash from 2022 (!) and did the wet paper towel test. As soon as those little white root nubs appeared, I planted them in seed cells and, so far, 10 out of 12 are up! Fabulous video, and love the garden paths/ mulch contrast!
every time I see what all you've done and what is still to do, I wonder if you ever have time to just sit back and enjoy the view!?
Things are looking great there. I am with you on the tomatoes- I cut back by over a third because some get stuck in suboptimal spots that do not really produce. As for the other veg, the squirrels have decided that this was the year to massively excavate the raised beds after the pre last frost seeding. So it looks like I will be buying live plants and rigging up some sort of protection.
Everything looks great!
❤
Have you ever considered asking your neighbor who owns the big oak bordering your back yard if you could remove some of its limbs to provide a bit more sun to your garden? I bet they wouldn’t mind since it doesn’t appear that they even take care of that part of their property.
The native garden path is awesome!
Everything looks so good. This year, I’m growing Bronze Torch for the first time. 😊
Hi Jim and Stephanie 👋 WOW!! Everything looks so full and lush! The native garden is looking amazing! Love the contrast from beds to pathways. Such a dream garden. 😊 I love the "All Natural " look. The veg garden is going to do great. Can't wait to see it all. I love how you respect all the birds/wildlife. Thank you for sharing. Have a wonderful weekend. Jen Z9b Texas Gulf Coast
Your gardens are absolutely magical❤
Love that opening drone shot!!
"more seed than you need" should be a tshirt!
Question for the weekly QA: when propagating semi-hardwood shrubs (i.e. weigela) how do you get them to branch out from the single stem? Im having some successess from last fall and this spring, but would like to learn about how to shape my cuttings into shrubs, thanks!
Steph, Jim,
I really like the cute wheelbarrow knickknack on ya'all's windowsill. 🙂
After two months with no significant reason we finally received 2 inches this week! Hope these storms helped quench yall out east as well
Wow.
Most of our planting was completed in late March here in Central TX (8b/9a), with one plant replaced three weeks ago. I was looking forward to switching to enjoyment and maintenance mode. But then we took damage to our new Catmint (Cat's Pajamas) two nights ago. Last night, it was completely flattened. We appear to have a wondering cat that found our Catmint. So, now I will be pulling the Catmint and trying to find something of similar size (12-14" H x 18-20" W) that will bloom Spring to frost. Ugh,
Such lovely gardens. You're blessed that both of you enjoy them. Have you ever tried cayenne pepper to keep the rabbits away. It has really helped me
A few hours south of you in SC and very grateful for the rain this week as well! Looking forward to coming to the Open Garden for the first time!
You should go see Swan Island when all of the dahlias are in bloom
I really love these Friday game plan videos. I really enjoy seeing what you’ve accomplished over the week and hearing what your next steps are going to be. I have learned in my gardening journey that my favorite part of gardening is the design aspect. This shouldn’t be surprising because I am a graphic designer, and artist, and have designed things my whole life so the design of a garden is my favorite part
When we bought our place 26 yrs ago there was a tree dahlia. I left it alone for about 10 years. But the frosts alway got it before I got to enjoy many flowers. It was on a little rise. When I dug it out , we hauled away a trailer load of tubers. It was crazy
Would the rabbit fence work for chipmunks? The little critters are going after everything! I’m trying cayenne pepper right now.
I would so love to attend your open garden. I’m sure I would come away with much inspiration and many new gardening friends. Not in the cards for me but am excited for you two and all of your guests.
Gardening heals my soul.
Wow! You sure have your hands full, lol. It looks amazing. It's like a little spot of heaven!
Hi, Jim and Stephanie. Would you share a link to the black decorative poles you're using for the rabbit netting? The new layout of the vegetable garden looks great! Thanks so much!
20 cubic yards of mulch….egads! I’m pretty sure I just heard my back scream in agony! Oh, I admire your strength and energy! It’s amazing what that stuff does for our gardens here in central NC though.✔ Drone view is awesome.
Looking so lush out there! Really hope i can make it up there in June.
I’m looking forward to appreciating your hard work in-person at the open garden in June. It’s nice to follow alongside as you manage everything that goes into preparing the garden and getting it “tour ready”. Your hard work and dedication are apparent. The garden looks beautiful and I especially love the way you’ve designed the paths and contrasting colors. I learn so much from you every week. 🙌🙌
The garden is so beautiful!
It's so awesome that Tony opens Juniper Level for us that are coming to the open garden! I had an amazing time last year and I'm looking forward to it again this year. Your garden is looking amazing. I'm so envious of the triple shredded hardwood mulch. I wish I could get that in my area. My natural bulk mulch is a good bit chunkier and lighter. It does seem to be working. I think it's just a little slower to break down. I bought a fennel plant yesterday. I'm very excited to finally have a host plant for butterflies. I'll be planting it in a bed filled with zinnias, salvia, agastache, gomphrena, and a white Butterfly Towers shrub. I'm so grateful for all the fantastic information I learn on your channel!
