“leafs of three let it be”?

  2. WoodpeckerForward188

Yes. Leaves of three let it be.

Has anyone tried dissolving baking soda into water and using that as a first wash of your skin after a poison ivy contact?

  4. givemesomespock

My dumbass almost said “no” but I also get crazy poison ivy every year so perhaps I’m not the right person to chime in

  5. uno_novaterra

100%. I tell my kids it has three leaves and the outer ones look like mittens.

  6. Drivo566

Sure is – three leaves, they got the little thumbs on them, and its red where the stems meet.

Looks like eastern oak leaf poison ivy to me. Not so fun (but useful facts): your picture is a plant. PI can appear as a vine, the tendrils appear fuzzy and blend into trees. PI can also be a shrub 2-4 ft. tall. Urushiol, the active ingredient, has a long life. Someone found a leaf pressed in a book. Forty plus years later, it was still active.

Poison oak? Just as bad. Watch your ankles!

  9. Ok_Luck_1098

Yes. Whatever you do do not burn it to get rid of it. Use another method so you don’t inhale its oils.

Get some poison ivy soap and jewelweed spray to keep in hand.

Mostly poison ivy. I also see a couple of baby elms, and the upper right has several baby oaks.

Gloves and long sleeves and yank the vines all up with roots. Doesn’t seem like a lot.

  13. Objective_Attempt_14

Use dawn and washcloth. I use several washcloths, one for arms, one for legs and 1-2 for body and face. face gets washed first. all with dawn and sometimes I do it twice…

Yup. Those irregular margin smooth leaves are characteristic. The vine-form and three leaf clusters are seen on other plants, but only poison ivy has mitten-like leaves.

  15. SeedQueen22

Eek! Take a shower in the coldest water you can tolerate before the oils can soak in.

if no one’s warned you yet, the roots can have even more of the toxic oil than the leaves, so if you go to pull it out or to dig in this space later, be very very careful handling them. the worst case of poison ivy I ever had was from pulling out roots when I didn’t realize what they were

  17. WriterNeedsCoffee

At least you didnt roll around in it

Do the leaves look like mittens?
    -Check
    -Will itch like the dickens
    Leaves of three?
    -Check
    -Leave them be

The no poison way to get rid of these if they are not too well established: I wear nitrile glove under a rubber glove, long sleeved shirt and long pants and rubber boots. I use a spade to get under and lift the root , Then I take a plastic bag, put my gloved hand into, pull the bag up to my elbow pull the root with the bag on my hand. Cut the root with the spade if needed. then turn the plastic bag inside out over the root and leaves. That bag gets put into another large trash bag immediately. You might have to have to do several of these to get it all. Wash rubber gloves, boots and spade with alcohol and soap. clothes go to hot water wash immediately.

  20. Yep, Google confirms. I’m always confusing it with Virginia Creeper, which looks similar.

  21. Dont_ban_me_bro_108

I see some freshly cut volunteer tree stumps amid all that poison ivy. Good luck OP

  22. Dasneaky71

Three very bright shiny leaves growing in a bunch yep definitely poison ivy. I envy people that can just walk right through it and not get a rash unlike me I ll be itchy for days.

  23. ladytroll4life

If it’s in an out of the way area where no one is in immediate risk of touching it, it’s worth leaving for the deer.

  24. drsoos1973

I don’t think so. I believe they are very shiny leaves.

  25. Aggravating_Poet_675

You know Ive seen 4 posts asking if it’s poison ivy today and I think this is the first one that actually is.

  26. Atheist_Redditor

Dude, I don’t even know. I see tons of three leaved plants around my property and I touch them all the time and I’ve never gotten a rash. I’ve also don’t believe that I’m allergic to poison ivy so I think I’m a bad example.

I understanding is if it’s got a shiny red stem and drooping three leaves then it’s poison ivy. If it’s larger it might have a wooly stem towards the bottom.
