Hi All,

Looking for some advice on my lucky bamboo (Dracaena Sanderiana?!?!).

Over the past year it's gotten out of control — the stems have etiolated(?) badly. He's grown to 6 feet tall with very thin, weak bases. I've been using stakes and the wall just to keep it upright. Part of the problem was that I kept raising my grow light as the plant outgrew it, which I think made the problem worse.

I think I need to cut the 4 long stems at the base, discard the thin lower sections, and propagate the thicker upper portions (still 3–4 feet long) in soil or water until they're ready to transplants? Maybe remove or trim some of the lower leaves too?

I plan to add a second light and keep it lower.

I think I need to prune the lower leaves? (so it looks more like normal lucky bamboo? Maybe that will help with the think stem? and height?)

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

You could chop part of the stems and propagate in water then replant in the same pot to make it bushy. Give it more light as well. That grow light isn’t powerful enough so your plant is reaching for better lighting.

She will greatly appreciate this one! The light she currently has just isn’t strong enough for her.

I meant the link you posted of the light you have ordered. That one will be perfect.
