So this is my first rhizomatous begonia, and based on the research i did there were multiple ways to prop. so i tried both the leaf-in-soil method but also kept the stem and part of leaf to put in water, which is how i’ve always propagated all my plants and it’s worked well. i asked in a fb group too and most responses were that water prop never works for them, so it made me panic a bit.

well, i should have just done water from the beginning anyway because the leaf ended up rotting. as for the water prop, im getting these from the node, but i dont see any actual roots? are these plantlets? and approximately when would it be ok to put it in soil? is it common for these to pop plantlets before roots? a little lost on these guys but i’m happy it is still alive so far at least lol.

my very first begonia was an angel wing that was nearly dead and i had to bring it back to life, and now she’s thriving with multiple cuttings about to go in the pot with her, so i’m confident i can recover from this screw up too. 😅

I would leave it as it is until it gets a good bit bigger and grows roots. Some Rex begonia water props often grow this way. I propagate these in soil, sphagnum or water but put all into an enclosed container to boost/stabilize humidity and it works great.
