HOT SPRINGS, Ark. (KATV) — If you’re still looking for a sweet way to celebrate Mother’s Day, Garvan Woodland Gardens in Hot Springs is rolling out something new this year: a lawn-side tea party with flowers, crafts and plenty of spring color.
The gardens are hosting “Mother’s Day in Bloom” for the first time this Sunday. Event planner Melissa Perrigo said it’s “kind of a tea party on the lawn,” with crafts, “tea food,” “little finger foods” and hot tea.
One of the hands-on highlights is a make-and-take craft. Perrigo said guests can “make your own bouquet with some flowers that we have,” and there’s also an easier option for younger kids: “For the smaller hands we have, where you make your own cardboard bouquet.”
Perrigo said the setting is a big part of what makes the event special, calling the botanical garden “very curated by our horticulture team.” She also pointed to a current art installation, “Where the Wind Lives,” created by Patrick Shearn of Poetic Kinetics. Perrigo described it as “1000s of ribbons that are suspended on this cable structure, and it floats with the wind.”
The installation will be up through October for anyone who can’t make it this weekend. Perrigo said it’s set up in three locations: the main garden, the kids garden and next to the tree house. She said it spans the canopy bridge and the Great Lawn, totaling “about 4000 square feet of art install.”
As for what’s blooming right now, Perrigo said the “two shining stars” in May are hydrangeas and azaleas, though she added the entire garden is worth seeing.
Tickets for Mother’s Day in Bloom are $50 for kids 12 and under, $60 for members and $70 for nonmembers. Perrigo said the ticket includes food and drinks, with “tea party snacks, hot tea and other lemonade and water.”
More details and tickets are available online, where Perrigo said there’s “a big banner at the top that you can click” for event information.
