Hey everyone,
I’m pretty new to hydroponics and I think I’ve messed something up 😅
I have an NFT system with 36 holes and in the last few days the water turned green and all the net pots are getting covered in algae. It kind of appeared out of nowhere and now it’s everywhere.
The problem is I can’t properly clean everything because I can’t really remove all the plants without disturbing them, and some parts of the system are hard to reach.
I’m not sure what caused it — maybe too much light hitting the water? Or something wrong with nutrients?
I’ve added some photos so you can see how bad it is.
What would you do in this situation?
Is there any safe way to get rid of the algae without killing the plants?
Should I just restart everything?
Any beginner mistakes I should check?
Appreciate any help 🙏

I would recommend using hydroguard. I have great success with it.

Make sure you aerate your water/nute solution with airstone.

    Do a very deep clean.

Eliminate all light sources hitting your solution, this is very important.

This happened to me when I first started. Make sure you cover the holes that aren’t used to prevent light leakage. That’s very important to prevent algae. I also bought clay pebbles to put in the grow cups so light wouldn’t leak in that way.
I was able to take my plants out to clean everything, so I’m not much help there
