KIRKSVILLE, Mo. — About a dozen northeast Missouri seniors got the inside track on container gardens Tuesday.
Northeast Missouri Senior Citizens Services in Kirksville hosted Horticulture Specialist Jennifer Schutter from the Adair County Extension Office for a noon-hour seminar.
Schutter shared with participants all kinds of helpful information, including which plants best thrive in container gardens.
She said herbs do great as do certain flowers and various vegetables.
Schutter recommends that when buying your plants that you look for “All-America Selections” and “Proven Winners” on the label.
She said these are superior plants that have undergone rigorous testing.
They are drought resistant, insect resistant, heat tolerant, colorful and hardy, often lasting until a hard freeze.
Schutter also answered questions from attendees throughout her seminar.
