This project started back in 2024, shortly after I got married. Wife had 2 large dogs, I had two “travel sized” dogs and it became apparent we desperately needed a backyard with fence to support our lifestyle (I travel a lot for work and taking out 4 dogs multiple times a day is untenable).
The process started with politicking my HOA for an easement, which took 14 months and multiple survey requests.
We finally got the approval in September of 2025 which is the start of the photos. Due to weather (multiple freezes this winter) & unexpected budget overruns, we finally were able to complete the transformation 2 weeks ago.
St Augustine was laid down in March and I just put down the first fertilizer treatment. Unfortunately, my 80 lb Lab & 44 lb Golden Retriever are causing major burn spots…so I’d love some tips & tricks if you have it.
Also, I’m fighting with the wife on our cafe lights. I want to do an “X” formation across the entire back yard while she wants to add another “triangle” to the main portion of the yard. What say you, Reddit?

That’s a huge upgrade, looks like it totally changed how usable the space is, especially with 4 dogs running around!
That looks beautiful, bro! No idea about the lights, but this place would be perfect for some type of outdoor kitchen or grilling area, maybe under a gazebo. With lights around the gazebo, of course.
