Potting Soil in Strawberry Pot Turned White. Presumably a fungus, but is it acceptable fungus?

Well forgot to add in the description. The white “soil” has only appeared on the bottom sections of the strawberry pot. No doubt I’ve overwatered it as I was worried I would dry out the bottom (my first time dealing with tiered pots). Just need to know if this an acceptable fungus that will go away once I stop overwatering

    One of two choices…

    1) Take the chance that the fungus is harmless and may even be beneficial providing nutrients as it breaks down your potting soil.

    or

2)Dump the potting soil in your compost bin and start over with fresh potting mix.

Since there are so many variables, only you can answer which of the 2 choices to go with.

I have a lot of potting mix that I make myself, so I would most likely start over with fresh mix… UNLESS the plant is already established in that pot, then I would let it be until I see signs of stress from the plant.  It it’s roots are not happy, the plant will let you know.

When it comes to potting soil, I have seen several pots “bloom” with fungus and not stress out the plant.  In such cases, those pots are more nutrient rich than the rest of the pots because of the fungal activity.  However… I have also seen fungus blooms that devoured the plant with in days!.
