A cannabis grower who was in Britain in defiance of a deportation order is set to be kicked out after serving jail time.

Festim Ahmetaj was found to have been growing cannabis after knowingly entering the UK in breach of a deportation order.

He was held after police raided an address in Victoria Square, Droitwich, on Wednesday, April 1.

Officers found a cannabis growing set-up with plants and equipment and £300 in cash.

Ahmetaj, 35, of Victoria Square, Droitwich, was convicted of cultivating a class B drug – cannabis and knowingly entering the UK in breach of a deportation order.

He was jailed for a total of 34 months, with his plants and growing equipment forfeited and destroyed and the cash seized.

Notice was also given to the Border and Immigration Agency that he may be liable for deportation.

Safer Neighbourhood Inspector for Droitwich, Lisa Hornberger, said: “We are pleased to swiftly get a custodial sentence for Ahmetaj following our warrant at the address in Victoria Square last month.

“Cannabis grows like this are often linked to organised criminal gangs and this is another one shut down and the ‘farmer’ behind bars.

“Ahmetaj also breached a deportation order so he ultimately faces being thrown out of the UK pending a decision by the Border and Immigration Agency.”
