Seems like the previous owner used this as a landfill. Was planning on clearing it and laying down dirt or soil or something then using it for chicken run with the coop inside the garage to the side. The more I rake the ground, the more shit I find. It was actually way worse than it looks now. Wondering if it's worth my time covering everything with more dirt. I know nothing will grow, just worried the chickens might find their way to stray trash eventually.

Edit: to be clear, they would be free range, this is just where I'd have the run until I let them out in the morning.

Till it up and get a nice sun shade mix seed then hay on top to hold moisture and your golden

If you want a lawn, almost anything is fixable.

If you just want a place for chickens, clean it up the best you can, then add a few inches of crushed rock, then soil for the birds in the coop.

Chickens love digging. Especially in dry dirt. They’ll find anything you miss, so be extremely thorough.

I would spend the time and effort on it, if it were me.

I still think it’s crazy that Buffalo allows chickens, but I’m on a farming suburb and they don’t allow chickens unless you’re in an agricultural zone. I miss my chickens. Quail are fine, too.

    Absolutely!

For one, anything can be saved with enough time, effort and / or money. But this here is one or two solid weekends of work clearing everything out to the bare ground and leveling with some top soil, and then seeding in the Fall with some quality seed. It’ll look great
