Popped the barberry out and took them back to Lowe’s for a refund. Lowe’s return policy seems to be 365 days on plants and they throw away any plants that get returned. The guy at the counter was super confused why I was returning them (“They’re invasive and the Lyme Ticks love’em?!?”) but completed the transaction.

We now have 5 Rainbow Sensation Weigela in their place. A University of New Hampshire planting fact sheet said they’re a great, safe alternative to barberry.

Still working on sourcing pollinators from my parent’s garden and a neighbor to fill in the beds a bit more.

You need a parallel retaining wall or clear edge at the bottom of the lawn to hold things together

Looked better with the barberry. All green is pretty boring.
