In todays video, i was hoping to show you how to water your allotment whilst youre away on vacation. Im planning on planting out all the crops now, except the vulnerable crops such as the runnerbeans, the frenchbeans, courgettes, pumpkins and outdoor tomatoes. Theyll be planted out in a few weeks time. However i do think we are past the last frost. I also mulch all the bean beds with farmyard manure compost to enrich the soil ready for the bean season. The manure is also moisture retentive too so the beans will love that.
Me Cheryl and Linda from the @Feelgoodgardens went to raglan garden centre for a gardening shopping haul. We also had lunch out and bought some gardening goodies!

I also give you a polytunnel and plot tour of the garden in may.

At the garden centre i purchased some bean and pea nets ready for the sweetpeas. Also a new root trainer and lupin plant.

The brassicas are looking so healthy and ready to be planted out! Ive got broccoli ramosa, crispus sprouts, snowball cauliflower, caraflex f1, savoy and sonsma f1 cabbages. Ive also got romanescos. Ive also got kalibos cabbage and purple cauliflowers.

I planted out all the onions from seed out. All 120 of them! 40 red baron and 80 bedfordshire champion! I then fine 40 more onions from set. Where are they all going????!!??
I also sowed more runnerbeans to ensure i have enough bean plans to plant out in 3 weeks time!
I show you how to prune indeterminate tomato plants.
I show you another perk of having a watering system in the polytunnel.
I start to mulch the metal raised beds ready for the big plant out! There’s so many flowers coming into bloom now.

Happy Growing!

  1. The little mouse is adorable. I have a tier of beans growing in one of my greenstalks and they are still fine despite some unusual cold nights here. I love those root trainers. I just started more beans in one of my sets. If the weather will settle, I can get those out soon.
Have you noticed that Tony’s channel has been high jacked by some crypto goons?

  2. Hi Dan thank you for a lovely video, Spring onions is my problem seed this year I’m on my 2nd packet now still nothing! 🤷🏻‍♀Don’t know what I,m doing wrong

  3. Danny I use a strong vinegar ants salt spray on the weeds. It cooks them and I have never had a plant come back more than once in a summer. Don’t get it on any plant you like, it will do them in. Spray them on a hot day and you will be surprised at the results. I boil a gallon of water and add a cup of salt. Stir until it dissolves. Add a gallon of white vinegar. Spray in the heat and be amazed.

  4. ‘The problem is the solution?’ I’ve read colts foot is a good herbal remedy for coughs, can be smoked, a dynamic accumulator (so probably good for fertiliser tea) and a good chop n drop mulch. It’s supposed to be safe for rabbits as a treat, so do you have any friends with bunnies?
I don’t have personal experience with this weed. Above info was from google.
Digging can proliferate it so maybe try just chopping off the above ground parts before they flower to weaken the roots over time.
My winter/spring weed frustration is the yellow flowered oxalis. The purslane is getting to be a bit too prolific in the summer too but is easy enough to pull up, at least I can eat it if I wanted.

  5. I have some calendula in a side border that have been flowering since last year & I even saw some flowers in the winter😯

  6. My polytunnel is SO hot 🥵- what’s the brand of solar fan you use please? Would you recommend?

  7. I do wicking beds for waterjng. You take a raised bed add a pond liner then 4inch pipe with holes.on the bottom add a drain hole to.the side half an inch to 1 inch down so you have some air then dump.dirt on top add 1 pipe to add water down fill till the drain leaks out and it made a huge difference plants pull water as they need it way less work just plant add water and wait

  8. it's always enjoyable to watch yours and Linda's videos. You have such a nice community there on your Allotment.
You mentioned plot pests , here it is Mares Tail which is slowly making its way across whole Allotment. Some tenants are weeding it others trying to suppress it with raise beds.

  9. Hi Danny. My plot has bindweed entrenched on it. My solution is keep digging it up. Not a very original answer but over time I am getting on top of it. All the best with tge coltsfoot. Haydn

  10. Wow your plants are massive in polytunnel hope my cabbages are ok going out as not as big as yours , definitely was cooler etc weekend to plant stuff out I’m going to get runner beans etc planted this week 😊 where do you get the solar fans from ?

  11. I have had quite a few onions but Danny 200 onions. 😂
Polytunnel is looking great but yes it’s heating up now

  12. Dan's shed stands proud at the edge of the plot, A kingdom of timber and tin he has wrought. Each panel, each nail, set firm by his hand, A quiet declaration: "I built this. I can". The roof hums softly when rain starts to fall, A drumbeat applause on his workshop wall. Inside, there's a gleam where the kettle will sing, And a stove waits patiently, warmth it will bring. A sink by the window, with views of the rows, Where soil cradles secrets only Dan knows. Gadgets all polished, precise in their place, Each tool like a line in a craftsman's embrace. Out on the porch, with a well-earned seat, He watches green whispers push up through the peat. Beans in their infancy, tender and bright, Reaching for sun with a gardener's might. His friends wander over, drawn in by the charm, By the curl of the steam and the day's gentle calm. A cuppa is poured, hands warmed by the mug, Laughter settles in, easy and snug. They sit there together, no need to pretend, Just stories and silence that bend but don't end. And Dan, with a smile, surveys what he's made- Not just wood and tin, but a life gently laid.

  13. I’ve had badgers snaffling my potatoes, so I’ve netted them in the hope that there are easier ones on the site for them to steal 😅

  14. Hi Danny, Our pests (other than moles and rats!), are Bindweed, creeping thistle and nettles. We have reduced it by about half on our first plot, mainly by deep digging it out. We've just taken a 2nd plot, which has all the same, plus Mares tale. We will do the same on here and we will keep the compost separate so we don't accidentley move mares tale to the original plot.

  15. Hi Danny, ooh I love a garden centre visit, especially buying more plants, pots/trays etc and a bite to eat too! Nothing better ❤ oh dear, too many onions, well, companion plant them all over your plots, especially brassicas & strawberries too. I struggled with onions this year, had to sow a lot more, just in case it happened again. Never had an issue before. Our allotment pest is mares tail and can never eradicate it, just pull it out then keep doing that to weaken it. This year, I have never seen it so bad – nightmare! Your polytunnel is bursting with healthy plants ❤ a great video update. Thanks for sharing and take care 😊

  16. Also having calendula problems, never usually have seed problems, tried 3 different packets too.

  17. Horse tail is my biggest nemesis, it even punctured the pond lining! I don’t over think trying to get rid of it… because that’s impossible! I just pull it up with as much root as I can as soon as I see it.

  18. Mostly couch grass, but a bit of bind weed! I just try to dig as much of it up as I can, but I have gone no dig so it’s not easy! Great video 😊

  19. You work so hard, I dont know how you you do it.
The seeds I can't seem to germinate this year are summer savory herb. Ive tried all sorts to get it to grow, but nope… it ain't having it. Im thinking maybe it's the seed 🤔. X

  20. I love your potting shed, it’s looking great! ❤ I had about 4 leeks germinate out of 100 and my nemesis is creeping buttercup. It’s relentless 😂❤

  21. Hi Danny, I’m so jealous of your onions! I only had a handful of my red baron germinate, I’m gutted😢
Could you share a link for the solar fans you use? We are looking for something like that for our cabin ☺️

  22. It’s certainly full steam ahead & we’re ALL loving it 🥰
    Especially now it’s sunny ☀️

You can never have enough onions Danny. I chopped & froze mine last year which will last (hopefully) until the next lots ready so I’ve grown even more this year 😅

Those ripped jeans 😂 people pay good money for that look!!
Aww it’s all coming together now 🥰 🌱
